Government confirms the prescription fee (for England) has been frozen, the first time in 12 years.

29.3.22

The Department of Health and Social Care has frozen prescription charges for England, the last time this happened was back in 2010, when they stayed at £7.20 per item.

Last year’s prescription charges rose to £9.35 per prescription item.

In response to a written parliamentary question last week – 17th March 2022:

Edward Argar Minister of State at the Department of Health and Social Care  said “Prescription charges will
not be uplifted on 1 April 2022. There is currently
no planned announcement on any future increase”.
He added “Decisions on increases take account of a range of evidence including the Gross Domestic
Product deflator”.
