Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting Dispex LIVE, a webinar dedicated to improving and
sustaining dispensing profitability. Hosted by the Dispex Directors, Dr Philip Koopowitz, and
Dr Ankit Kant, this relaxed lunchtime event brought together lead GPs, Dispensers, and Dispensary
& Finance Managers. Attendees found the free session both engaging and highly informative.
Key Highlights from the Session
Ankit, kicked off the event by diving into how to use our benchmarking tool. This resource gives dispensing
practices a clear view of how they are performing compared to other Dispex members who take full
advantage of our member-exclusive resources.
Next, Ankit showcased one of our latest innovations, Dispex AI, a dispensary-focused chatbot. Modeled
after the popular Ankit Kant AI chatbot, which to date has answered 59,681 questions! Dispex AI has
been specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of dispensary teams. Attendees were impressed by how
this powerful tool provides quick, reliable answers, freeing up time for more critical tasks.
Dispex AI can help with tasks such as:
- Writing a DSQS audit
- Examples of risk assessments
- Explaining stock control in simple, easy to understand terms-even breaking it down as
if explaining to a 7 year old!
Ankit also took attendees on a guided tour of our online PCSE statement guide. This resource is available to
all Dispex members and offers practical, step-by-step instructions for navigating the often confusing
financial statements.
Following Ankit’s session, Philip took the floor to deliver an in-depth demonstration on how to effectively use
the Generics Costing More Than Tariff page, which sparked many questions from attendees- exactly
what the event was designed for. Here are some of the questions that were raised:
Q If you change the body of the script and DO NOT get this initialled, will it be returned or change not
recognised by the NHSBSA?
Q: Does the price only need adding to the left hand column if there is no price listed in the dm+d?
Q: Do you need to keep separate bundles for each of the brands you dispense in the month, eg Crescent
and Accord and then only change the one which is indicated on the list?
Q: How often do you think we need to review our formularies, would monthly be enough?

Philip then spent time reviewing the Brand Comparison pages. On these pages Dispex compares different
brands within the same drug class, assuming the same clinical efficacy. These comparisons provide an
overview of NHS costs and highlight the difference in profitability, factoring in wholesalers’ discounts
(both reduced and full) and manufacturers’ discount schemes (MDS). As an independently owned
organisation, Dispex is not affiliated with any third parties. We only highlight products or services
that truly benefit your practice.
During the live session, we reviewed recent updates, including changes related to GnRH Analogues, CVS –
DOACs/NOACs, Calcipotriol and Betamethasone. Discounts are offered and some disappear, often without
notice- so keep an eye on our website.
The Value of Attending
The casual, interactive format encouraged open dialogue, and attendees found the live demonstrations
particularly useful for understanding how these tools can be applied in their dispensary. The webinar
was an ideal platform for attendees to ask questions and engage with experts, and with each other in
the chat, making it a well-rounded learning experience.
What’s Next?
Several practices have requested additional online training, and some are exploring onsite profitability
