publishing Dispensary Friendly formularies for a number of conditions, starting with Adult Asthma.
There will be 3 separate formularies for each clinical condition, one for each main wholesaler, so
that practices can ensure they obtain the brand that their main wholesaler offers the best possible
discount. Not all wholesalers offer all manufacturers’ discounts and not all manufacturers offer
discounts on all of their products. We have refined the available data so that you will have an easy
to use one page formulary to help you decide which brands to prescribe, or whether to prescribe
generically. If prescribing generically, you will be able to see which is the most cost-effective option,
be that dispensing a particular brand, dispensing a generic or dispensing a branded generic.

The patients’ clinical conditions must always dictate the prescribing decisions, but where there is
an option to use an equivalent medication in the same class, then the needs of the practice should
be taken into account and the most cost-effective medication for the practice to dispense should
be considered.
