There has been a further £9 million taken out of the pharmacy contract via a reduction in
Category M prices.
There are 3 new products in category M from October which include Levothyroxine 12.5mcg
and 75mcg tablets in packs of 28 as well as Permethrin 5% cream.
Eight lines have been taken out of Category M, many of which have supply issues, including
Co-amilofruse 2.5mg/20mg tabs, Ramipril 1.25mg Tabs and Valsartan 80mg and 160mg tablets.
There are 407 products that have reduced in reimbursement price, with only 182 products
increasing in price by 5 pence or more.
No wonder pharmacies are shutting and the number of manufacturers of certain generics has
decreased drastically – we can expect further supply issues as the profitability for manufacturers
