Category M Prices October 2024 – another kick in the teeth for dispensaries and pharmacies

By Dr Philip Koopowitz – Dispex & Hexagon6

There has been a further £9 million taken out of
the pharmacy contract via a reduction in
Category M prices.

There are 3 new products in category M from October which include Levothyroxine 12.5mcg
and 75mcg tablets in packs of 28 as well as Permethrin 5% cream.

Eight lines have been taken out of Category M, many of which have supply issues, including
Co-amilofruse 2.5mg/20mg tabs, Ramipril 1.25mg Tabs and Valsartan 80mg and 160mg tablets.

There are 407 products that have reduced in reimbursement price, with only 182 products
increasing in price by 5 pence or more.

No wonder pharmacies are shutting and the number of manufacturers of certain generics has
decreased drastically – we can expect further supply issues as the profitability for manufacturers
is being hit, alongside profitability for pharmacies and dispensing doctors. Dispex members can
