Category A products are generics which do not meet the threshold volumes to be included in Category M.
From April 2024 and for the next 18 months, Category A prices, which were determined using a weighted average of AAH, Alliance, Accord and Teva prices, will transition to their price being set using information from suppliers obtained under the Health Service Products (Provision and Disclosure of Information) Regulations 2018. All available pack sizes of licensed generic medicines will be considered. Each month wholesalers are obliged to send their invoice prices for generics to NHSBSA. This will form the basis of future price setting for Category A. As with Category M prices, we can expect quarterly price changes.
