Using the Brand Comparisons data form the Profitability section of the Dispex website, we will be
publishing Dispensary Friendly formularies for a number of conditions, starting with Adult Asthma.
There will be 3 separate formularies for each clinical condition, one for each main wholesaler, so
that practices can ensure they obtain the brand that their main wholesaler offers the best possible
discount. Not all wholesalers offer all manufacturers’ discounts and not all manufacturers offer
discounts on all of their products. We have refined the available data so that you will have an easy
to use one page formulary to help you decide which brands to prescribe, or whether to prescribe
generically. If prescribing generically, you will be able to see which is the most cost-effective option,
be that dispensing a particular brand, dispensing a generic or dispensing a branded generic. The
patients’ clinical conditions must always dictate the prescribing decisions, but where there is an
option to use an equivalent medication in the same class, then the needs of the practice should be
taken into account and the most cost-effective medication for the practice to dispense should be
considered.

have 27 different class comparisons, and these could be used to lay the foundations of a
Dispensary friendly formulary – we have covered Respiratory, CVS, Diabetes, Women’s Health
as well as Ocular Lubricants.
Updates
Drug Tariff Updates – Each month we analyse the Preface to the Drug Tariff and highlight relevant
products which have either been added, removed or changed in the Drug Tariff. We also provide a list
of Category M products and their change in price, when these occur.
Concession Price Updates- As Concession Prices are added to the Drug Tariff for a particular month,
